Harriet Davison, 88, was beaten and suffocated by Beverley James - who worked as a carer by day and a sex chat worker by night - in her sheltered accommodation flat in Sunderland in July last year.James, 39, then hatched an elaborate plot, claiming a tattooed intruder had attacked them both and ordered her to carry out a series of bizarre acts, in a bid to hide what she had actually done.

She was contracted to tend to Mrs Davison, who lived at Emblehope House, Farringdon, just one day per week but would visit almost every day.

The court heard James, a school caretaker's wife, would cash the housebound pensioner's weekly Giro and buy her groceries.

But after CCTV footage all around the property failed to pick up any sighting of a stranger, police being convinced the ransacked scene was 'staged' and a doctor concluding James' own injuries were 'self inflicted', jurors found the carer had carried out the brutal killing herself.

Mr Justice Openshaw said the mother-of-three must spend at least twenty years behind bars and branded her version of events as 'outrageous lies'.

A sex worker who murdered a pensioner she had been stealing money from then set up an 'elaborate sham' to cover her tracks has been jailed for 20 years.Detective Chief Inspector Christina Barrett who led the investigation said: 'This was a brutal attack on a vulnerable elderly woman in her own home. These are all abbreviations for specific phrases commonly used in informal written computer correspondence, online forums and boards, and online gaming.Mr Justice Openshaw added: 'The defendant maintained outrageous lies from beginning to end and told them again to the jury.' The judge said he was satisfied James had been stealing the pensioner's money and that an earlier raid at Mrs Davison's flat had been 'invented' by James. He said: 'I have no doubt that this report of a burglary in August 2009 was an invention by the defendant.James said the bald attacker, who was wearing a Sunderland football shirt, had made her light a cigarette and blow smoke onto his penis, put a wire around her neck, hit her with a lamp and stuffed a stocking in her mouth.
